2022 Latta Wines "Mayor Bill" GSM
110 cs. made. $60/btl
95 pts. Vinous | 94 pts. Owen Bargreen
Crafted exclusively from Upland Vineyard, Mayor Bill is a classic Rhône-inspired blend of Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre that balances elegance with depth. Aromas of bright bramble fruit, white pepper, lavender, rose petals, and wild herbs are layered with hints of incense and crushed stone. The palate is vibrant yet structured, revealing red berries, savory garrigue, and a striking mineral backbone supported by refined tannins and lively acidity. Fermented with native yeast, hand punch-downs, and aged for 22 months in neutral 500L French oak puncheons, this is a beautifully balanced wine built to reward patience while remaining captivating today.
Who is Mayor Bill again? Upland Vineyard in Sunnyside, WA was planted in 1917 by William “Bill” Bridgman making it the first commercial planting of Vitis vinifera in our fair state. Bill is the visionary grandfather of Washington wine and all of us that make wine here now owe a debt to the twice elected former Mayor of Sunnyside. We are honored to work with the Newhouse family farming the same hill of rocks and dirt that “Mayor Bill” saw potential in over 100 years ago.
