2015 Latta Wines Malbec Weinbau Vineyard

This evocative purple wine exhibits violet on the nose with notes of marionberry, anise, and roasted earth. Its robust mineral and dark cacao finish lingers on and on.  The flavors are deep and layered, with spice notes speckled throughout. On skins for 35 days and aged in 40% new French oak for 22 months. This wine will benefit from 8-15 years of cellaring.

2016 Latta Wines "LATTA LATTA" GSM

60% Grenache, 26% Syrah, 14% Mourvedre from Upland and Freewater Rocks vineyards with 55% whole cluster/45% whole berry. Explosive aromatics of ripe raspberry, garrigue and white pepper; long savory finish. Fermented on native yeast and punched down by hand for an average 29 days before pressing.  This blend is aged in neutral 500L and 228L barrels for 22 months before bottling.
 
Approximately 3.2 tons/acre sourced from two very special sites in Washington, Upland Vineyard in Snipes Mountain AVA  where we source Grenache and Mourvedre and Freewater Rocks Vineyard in the The Rocks District of Walla Walla AVA sourcing Grenache and Syrah.

2016 Latta Wines Grenache Freewater Rocks Vineyard

Deep garnet in color, it exhibits hedonistic red fruit with mineral, underbrush, dark bing cherry and raspberry aromatics. Heady aromas transport to rural Kentucky on gravel road at night in Spring. Intense, vibrant, and lingering on the palate, our Freewater Rocks Grenache exudes a richness and depth with fine-grained silky tannins. Crop load balance is always the key with Grenache, a healthy 3.3 tons/acre for warm 2016. A lengthy maceration with 60% stems and 40% whole berries lend wildness to the aromatics and length to the finish. This 100% Grenache is aged in neutral 500L puncheons and barrique for 25 months before bottling.
 
Freewater Rocks vineyard is located in the Rocks District of Walla Walla. Planted in 2000 in the core of Freewater Cobbly Loam this is an OG vineyard site with four generations of fruit farming behind it. The site is farmed by Dana Dibble, a man who grew up on that rocky dirt, a third generation farmer who transformed these hardscrabble orchards into the manicured rows of vines standing among the stones today. Dana and Andrew have collaborated on many vintages and vineyard projects over the years and we are excited to bring you this Grenache.

2016 Latta Wines Grenache Upland Vineyard

Brilliant ruby in color, it exhibits mineral, underbrush, sage and rosemary with dark bing cherry and raspberry aromatics. Intense, vibrant, and lingering on the palate, our Grenache exudes a rich sanguine quality with fine-grained sweet tannins. Great care is taken in the vineyard to produce the finest fruit possible. Many thinning passes and removal of the shoulders of the cluster to concentrate the full expression of Upland Vineyard. Crop load balance is the key to this wine's concentration, a judicious 3.4 tons/acre for warm 2016. A lengthy maceration with 50% stems and 50% whole berries lend wildness to the aromatics and length to the finish. This 100% Grenache is aged in neutral 500L puncheons for 22 months before bottling.

Upland Vineyard is a rolling extremely sloped site located in the Snipes Mountain AVA.  Snipes Mountain was named for Ben Snipes, an early Yakima County pioneer who built a house at the base of a mountain in the 1850s. The area was first planted in 1917 by Washington State wine pioneer William B. Bridgman. The vineyard on Snipes Mountain was one of the first to plant Vitis vinifera in Washington. Snipes Mountain is a seven mile long anticline ridge created by fault activity. The "peak" is 1,290 feet high, rising from the floor of the Yakima Valley with unique, rocky soils, known as aridisols.  Soil deposits below the area are composed of gravels and sediments left by ancient river beds, deposits range in size from a fist to a football. The rocky composition of this warm site provides the backbone of our Grenache block from Upland.

2016 Latta Wines Mourvedre Upland Vineyard

100% Mourvedre fermented with 70% whole cluster/30% whole berry. Aged for 25 months in 500L puncheon and 228L barrique, 10% new. Aromas of blood and stone, lilac, mulberry, grilled meat and cracked cardamom. Palate is expansive with firm polished tannins. Significant shoulder and cluster removal here to concentrate the full expression of Upland Vineyard. Balanced yields are the key to this wine's depth of flavor at 3.5 tons/acre for the warm 2016 vintage.

2016 Latta Wines Syrah Dana Dibble

This dark wine composed of 97% Syrah, 3% Viognier is sourced from Freewater Rocks Vineyard that Andrew has worked with for over a decade. Intense with a perfumed nose that melds dark berry and smoked ham-hock with an expansive palate and savory finishThe wine has all the characteristic super funk of the rocks with intense depth of fruit and floral notes from the Tablas Clone Syrah. Lush tannins lift to flavors of pomegranate, camphor and earth.
 

Freewater Rocks vineyard is located in the Rocks District of Walla Walla. Planted in 2000 in the core of Freewater Cobbly Loam this is an OG vineyard site with four generations of fruit farming behind it. The wine carries "Dana Dibble" for the man who grew up on the dirt, the third generation farmer who transformed these hardscrabble orchards into the manicured rows of vines standing among the stones today. Dana and Andrew have collaborated on many vintages and vineyard projects over the years and we felt his work deserved recognition, hence the "Dana Dibble".

2017 Kind Stranger Chardonnay

82% Evergreen Vineyard Chardonnay, 18% Lawrence Vineyard Roussanne

Fermented with indigenous yeasts in neutral barrels then aged sur lie for 16 months. High elevation sites littered with caliche and broken basalt contribute freshness and minerality to the wine. Chardonnay does the heavy lifting, providing structure and citrus notes, Roussanne accents with exotic fruit and complexity.

We're inspired by taking the name KIND STRANGER quite literally and turning toward others around us. We've seen our national landscape shift a bit recently and we feel it's as important as ever to be a real kind stranger in the world. Garnet hued blend with aromatics of black cherry macerated with black pepper, gun metal, sanguine. Crackling palate with solid acid and polished tannin. Grenache gives the red fruited framework and garrigue, Syrah the gamey depth and expansive mouthfeel, Mourvedre holds down the bottom with bloodied blackberry and spice.

2017 Latta Wines Roussanne Lawrence Vineyard

201 cs. made.  $30/btl. 

Bright yellow gold white wine, with meyer lemon, notes of hay, pronounced salinity, and petrichor. We sprawled the west side of the vine rows to keep sunburn out and freshness in. A cropload of 3.6 tons/acre kept acid and sugar in balance with Lawrence vineyard’s trademark intensity. The Roussanne was whole cluster pressed and fermented native in barrel, a mix of barriques and puncheons with 15% new French oak from Jupille. The wine rested in barrel for 16 months until bottling.

Lawrence vineyard is a cool site overlooking the Royal Slope and the Saddle Mountains to the south. The Roussanne block sits at 1450 feet of elevation in Taunton silt loam soils that give way to broken basalt. The sloped elevation of Lawrence gives it protection from frost that wreaks havoc in vineyard sites lower on the slope. The long cool growing season is ideal for serious white wine such as this Roussanne.

2018 Kind Stranger Cabernet Sauvignon

83% Aquilini Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Weinbau Vineyard Malbec 

Fermented whole berry with indigenous yeasts then an extended maceration that averaged 28 days. Basket pressed then barrel aged for 22 months, 15% new french oak. Cabernet vines grown in soil is made up of sandy loam and gravel with high alkalinity (high pH) and a rich calcium carbonate content give excellent depth of fruit and ample structure. Weinbau's Malbec piles on the concentration and spice notes.
